Rockstar Support says the physical package contains a redemption code and no disc. That supports pre-loading but means the game still requires a full download and the code becomes the license.

Do not buy a used opened copy without confirming the code is unused. There is no physical Ultimate Edition; eligible Standard owners can purchase the upgrade digitally.

Choose Standard if you care mainly about the campaign and prefer to judge premium extras later. Choose Ultimate only if its named vehicles, weapons, clothing, and story additions are worth the extra cost to you. No pre-order bonus is a substitute for independent launch reviews.
